Someone once said, “Coffee is the best thing to douse the sunrise with.”What is it about this generation that we have such a strong coffee culture? Between Starbucks and all the other coffee shops our culture seems captivated by cappuccinos. Everywhere I look I see a coffee shop. Everywhere I go I’m drawn in by its entrancing aroma. Coffee: water poured over beans… Simple, and yet strange when you think about it. Perhaps it’s not the drink that pulls us in, but the environment. Everybody loves the décor, music and ambiance of a good café, but maybe that’s not all. Maybe the reason we pay five bucks for some bean water is that it’s really a picture of something far larger. When we go to a coffee shop do we go alone? Usually not. The point of coffee is simply conversation. It’s an important element too. When you forget what you were going to say you can take your time to think while you also take a sip. Very handy in awkward conversations… But really, coffee connects us to people. Sometime we go alone to sit, relax, study, and think, in which case the coffee is really helping us to connect to ourselves. We fill our cups so we can fill our souls. Some of the best conversations happen over coffee, so take someone to coffee this week. Invest some time in someone’s life, and maybe it will change the future. Express yourself through an espresso and see what happens. Coffee… simple, strange, yet satisfying.
