Study
February 23rd, 2008Pick a chapter or a few chapters of a book in the Bible and read through them each day. Google them, find a commentary and find out as much as you can about them. See how God uses the text in your life during the week as you study.
Meditation
February 13th, 2008Take some time each day to read though a few lines of a psalm and a passage from one of the gospels. Does any connection occur between the two? Read through it a few times until a phrase sticks out at you. Let the phrase linger for a while. Write it down and take it with you through the day. At the end of the day reflect on the phrase and what God spoke to you.
Prayer
February 4th, 2008Fasting
January 11th, 2008Fast as long as you can to begin the week. If you begin to eat later in the week try to fast from things other than food. Try not to let anyone know when you are fasting.
Solitude
January 11th, 2008Take a chunk of time each day and spend it alone. Listen and pray, write, read, talk to God. At the end of the week, try to get away for a few days and be alone. Pay attention to the way that God draws you to Himself.
Simplicity
January 11th, 2008Spend a week trying to live simply. Resist using machines for things that can be done by hand. How is your time spent differently? Don’t watch TV, or use media devices except when absolutely necessary. Be intentional about a daily rhythm of Sabbath. Try to find God in the little things happening all around you. Take some time to people watch. Go somewhere to sit down and enjoy God’s creation.
